Sports Ministry and MACL Sign Agreement to Build Multi-Sports Complex in Rasdhoo

The Ministry of Sports, fitness and recreation and the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) have signed an agreement to construct a state-of-the-art multi-sports complex in Rasdhoo, marking another step towards fulfilling President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu’s pledge to expand fitness and recreation facilities across the country.

The agreement was signed in a ceremony attended by President Muizzu. MACL Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohammed signed on behalf of the company, while Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu signed on behalf of the government.

The Rasdhoo Sports Complex is part of a broader agreement between the ministry and MACL to establish fitness and recreation centers in 63 islands nationwide. The initiative is one of the key projects under President Muizzu’s commitment to make recreational and health facilities accessible to all Maldivians.

According to the ministry, the Rasdhoo complex will be equipped with modern facilities including an indoor gym, a dedicated exercise room for women, a hall for board and indoor games, and a multipurpose hall for various sports activities. Additionally, the complex will feature a special meeting room, providing a space for community events and youth engagement programs.

Officials highlighted that the project aims to create healthier communities by encouraging sports participation and improving access to structured fitness opportunities. The government and MACL have also noted that similar complexes in other islands will follow the same integrated model, designed to promote wellness, social inclusion, and community development.
